Dear Motown Writers Network Moderator,
I am working on a book called Kids' Letters to President Obama.
We are looking for letters from children ages 5 - 15, and I thought that this might be a fun activity for children. We're very excited about Kids' Letters to President Obama, which will be published by Random House in 2009.
Could you post a query about Kids' Letters to President Obama on Motown Writers Network? We think that parents on your group might like to have their child's letter in the book. This might help inspire children to become writers, too.
Children can write a letter to Barack Obama that is up to a page long. The letter can be about anything he or she would like to say to the new President. Letters could give the President advice, or talk about problems that the President should address, or ask Obama questions about his childhood or why he wanted to be president. Or the letter could be about your own child life and feelings about the future. In short, whatever kids are interested in is fine for a letter.
The letter should begin with "Dear President Obama" and should be emailed to obamakidsletters@gmail.com (obamakidsletters @ gmail.com) or sent by regular mail or fax to:
Bill Adler Adler & Robin Books, Inc. 3000 Connecticut Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20008 Fax: 202-478-5211
You can find out more information on our website: http://sites.google.com/site/kidsletterstopresidentobama/letters or
If you have any questions about the book, please let me know. The deadline for letters is December 31, 2008. If your letter is published, you will receive a free copy of Kids' Letters to President Obama.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Bill Adler |

I have an extensive background in computer programming, beginning with a bachelor's degree from Michigan Technological University back in 1986. Since then, I've written dozens of technical articles for journals such as C++ Users Journal and Windows::Developer. My wife's background in trauma counseling got me more interested in that field of work. In 1996, I took the initiative to create a website for the Traumatic Incident Reduction Association (TIRA). Since then, I've become steadily more involved in this community culminating in the founding of Loving Healing Press (LHP). LHP is dedicated to producing books about Metapsychology and TIR to make a difference in the world.

As participants, we ask that you help us spread the word about this important event. Because it's not about us just showing that we care about the literary world of Michigan, but it's also about us creating a strong literary network and celebrating our love for the written word.
The chairperson, Sylvia Hubbard, started this conference because she wanted to do this. Her passion, hard work and determination shows at each event and in her every day literary life. As a single mother of three, she uses her own financial means along with grants to make this conference come to fruition, but this is a mountain to climb and she cannot do it alone.

We need all the help we can get and we're asking the entire Michigan Literary community to come together.

Constructing the Plausible Paranormal
Constructing the Plausible Paranormal
Vampires and shape-shifters might be hot today, but readers have long loved other-worldly occurrences. Tales ranging from The Raven to Carrie to The Sixth Sense prove that plots can transcend trends and find a niche in most any
marketplace.
So how do you defy the Chick Lit/Urban Fiction/Erotica trend and write the reality-bending book of your heart? We'll start by thinking beyond “what's in,” and learn what makes out-of-this-world work.
This workshop will review critical elements of basic plot structure and genre, and how those pieces function in a paranormal setting. We'll use plot lines from popular movies in an interactive format to demonstrate ways of constructing plausible and satisfying supernatural stories.
