Facilitator Bio:

Heather Buchanan, M.A., owner of Aquarius Press, is a past winner of the MetroTimes' "Best Of: Literary" and the “Excellence in Publishing” award by the 8th Congressional District. Eyes on Fire: Witnesses to the Detroit Riot of 1967, is a national bestseller. Another bestselling book, Dark River, is a 2008 CBS Kindred Award nominee and part of the Burton Historical Collection. Her journal, Reverie: Midwest African American Literature, is listed as one of the top 25 in the country. A commissioned book, Creation Beliefs, is a part of the permanent “And Still We Rise” exhibit at the Charles H. Wright Museum. Ms. Buchanan is a professor at the University of Michigan-Dearborn and the College for Creative Studies. A former COO of the Wayne County Council for Arts and VP of the Great Lakes Independent Publishing Association, Aquarius Press is currently publishing several local poets and writers. The newest publication by Aquarius Press is It’s Worth the Struggle: Inspiration for Contemporary Writers (2008).
