Constructing the Plausible Paranormal

Constructing the Plausible Paranormal

Vampires and shape-shifters might be hot today, but readers have long loved other-worldly occurrences. Tales ranging from The Raven to Carrie to The Sixth Sense prove that plots can transcend trends and find a niche in most any
marketplace.

So how do you defy the Chick Lit/Urban Fiction/Erotica trend and write the reality-bending book of your heart? We'll start by thinking beyond “what's in,” and learn what makes out-of-this-world work.

This workshop will review critical elements of basic plot structure and genre, and how those pieces function in a paranormal setting. We'll use plot lines from popular movies in an interactive format to demonstrate ways of constructing plausible and satisfying supernatural stories.

2008 Conference Special Events

During the 2008 5th Annual Essence of Motown Literary Jam, many authors,
organizations and publishers are having their events coincide with the
conference.

For instance:

1. Raising Donations for Journals and AA children books for Detroit Public School Children

The Motown Literary Network is calling for readers and writers to
help. Our focus is to help Metro Detroit schools with supplies and much needed
supplies that teachers are asking for. From October through November we are
giving part of the proceeds that are giving to our literary conference on
November 6 through 9th (http://essenceofmotown.com) to assist different schools with different needs. For Example, check out Carlton Middle School's page: http://www.donorschoose.org/donors/proposal.html?id=188036&verify=-2142389663&zone=212

Sponsorship /Vendors for 2008 Detroit Essence of Motown Literary Jam

5 YEARS STRONG AND ALL BECAUSE OF YOU!
In cooperation with Motown Writers Network and Equity in Partnership (501c3), The Essence of Motown Literary Conference Jam will be celebrating from 5th year in exsistence.
Celebrate with us for many more to come and join the largest literary conference in Detroit for 2008.
With past attendence of 300+, we hope that we can triple that with your presence. Network with readers, authors, poets, publishers, agents and writers, sell and buy books, bring a bookclub, join a writer's group and learn about writing, publishing, marketing & promotion in 4 days of literary fun.
There will also be a special youth component added this year, we're in talks to have an agent at the conference this year, two national bestselling authors that have much awaited novels coming out around the same time as the conference and a lot of the events that the participants of the past have come to enjoy about the conference.
In 2008, we expect an attendance of over 500+ and a conference booklet distribution of over 1000+. Not only that, during the conference promotion, we receive hits of over 20,000+ from all the marketing and promotion that we do on the Internet.
The larger your sponsorship and the sooner you participate, the more visual your product and service is for the community.
Download the sponsorship-vendor packet by clicking here: http://www.essenceofmotown.com/files/mwn2008sponsor-vendorpkg.pdf
